It has been an extremely busy start to the year. 2014 closed with a great New Year’s Eve party at the Park Hotel in Diss. The Claire Barker Band had the dance floor full for a great evening of food and dancing. The band dined at the Park Hotel too and the food was fantastic! Since then, it has been all systems go with a variety of gigs including solo, duo and band performances.
The Claire Barker and Paul Hill Duo
A new project for me this year is playing in a duo with Claire Barker. We have played a few times already as a duo this year and it is great fun. As we have both played for many years in many different musical settings, the repertoire is already huge! The last few performances have included everything from jazz classics, though 80s rock, to current chart hits. All the classics that I have enjoyed playing over the years are coming back and I am very much enjoying revisiting these songs in a duo situation.
If you want to see Claire and I perform, we are at the Wine Cellar on the 17th February and the Brickmakers on the 19th February. The Brickmakers gig will probably involve a good number of rock classics to bring back memories from some of the many bands I have played there with over the years.
Wedding, Prom and Party Show
On Sunday 8th February, I was exhibiting at the Sprowston Manor Wedding, Prom and Party Show. This is always a busy show and this one brought many visitors once again. Claire Barker helped me on my stand and we had a great day talking to many happy brides to be. Claire’s help was greatly appreciated as it is impossible to speak to everyone, especially when I am performing. Thanks must also go to Lindsay Pointer for organising such an excellent show as always.
I am performing with Laura White this Saturday at the Old Rectory in Crostwick. We enjoyed performing at their Valentines event last year and this year is looking to be a sold out evening once again. Laura and I will be performing a mix of laid back Jazz, Soul and Pop to accompany a scrumptuous 3 course meal in a romantic setting. This includes 3 courses and coffee, plus a gift for the ladies.
The start of the year has also been busy with the Claire Barker Band. Many of the band’s gigs are weddings and private functions, although we have played a few public gigs which have been great fun. If you want to catch the band and have a night of great music to get you up and dancing, our next public gig is on the 21st February at the California Tavern.
I have also been playing solo guitar at weddings this year. My most recent solo performance at Browston Hall involved me performing during the ceremony and at the drinks reception. I feel very privileged to be part of a couple’s special day. On this particular day, I was asked to perform Pachelbel’s Canon for the Bridal entrance and specific pieces for the signing of the register and exit. It was a lovely wedding and the staff at Browston Hall were very helpful and friendly.
That’s just about all for this blog post. If you want to see me play live, whether it be as a solo guitarist, in a duo, trio, quartet or in the Claire Barker Band, follow me on Facebook, Twitter or Google+ to find out where I am playing.
See you at a gig soon!
